Town Hall Meeting

This week we had a town hall meeting. There were a few pro-slavery and anti-slavery figures present.

Some of the pro-slavery figures included Henry Clay from Kentucky who has over 60 slaves and claims that he's busy and slaves bring him money. Another pro-slavery figure is John C. Calhoun who saw slavery as a positive good and believed that the American dream could not be met without slaves. Samuel Morris believes that it is a sin to not own slaves.

Some anti-slavery figures include Austin Roger B Cain who agree with the case decision that slaves are citizens. Thomas Jefferson was a slave

owner that passed a law to ban slaves. His argument was that he knows what it is like to be a slave owner and didn't want that to be put onto other people. Sojourner Truth was a slave in upstate New York who escaped. She believed that African Americans should be freed and have their own territory.

Although there were two main sides when it came to slavery there were many different views on how they actually wanted to deal with it. This actually came as a surprise to me. When I did my research on Sojourner Truth, I first thought that she wanted slaves free and integrated with white citizen but she actually wanted them separated.
