EOTO 2: Civil Rights Era

This EOTO was on events and people from the Civil Rights era. The marches from Salem to Montgomery were three marches that took place over 54 miles. On Bloody Sunday, March 7th, 1965, the people participating in the march were attacked by police while they were marching. During the Montgomery Bus Boycott, African-Americans refused to ride buses. On Febuarary 1, 1960, Four African-Americans sat at a "white-only" lunch counter and refused move. The last event discussed was the Freedom Riders. Northerners went down to protest and help integration. It eventually got violent and buses were set on fire.
The second team discussed people of the Civil Rights era. Bayard Rustin was an advisor to Martin Luther King Jr. and taught him non-violence. Rosa Parks was refused to give up her seat on a bus and was arrested on December 1, 1955. Malcolm X became an islamic minister and separated from NOI. After his trip to Mecca he became less violent. Emmett Till was a 14 year old African-American by who was brutally murdered after being accused of flirting with a white woman. His mother had an open-casket funeral and photos were shown everywhere. His murder was deemed not guilty.
